We didn't take any pictures on the half day, but ALERT students at Conder completed a set of architecture vocabulary and worked on a shading continuum. Students had to recreate a set of shading bars to match one that was provided. The aspect of the arts integration magnet at Conder really showed itself as most students finished their shading in record time (and was done correctly) so most of them go to move on to our first major drawing topic, one point perspective drawings.

ALERT students at Conder took notes in the form of diagrams to help them understand our Habits of Mind lesson. The diagrams note how we strive for accuracy and precision - our video/activity involved trying to hit a target. Accuracy was our ability to hit the target, precision was our ability to be consistent about where our tries landed. Students also solved variable equations and used graph paper to solve for area and perimeter. They found it interesting having to work backwards, when the problem gave them the area and they had to figure out the sides of the shape. We also took a mini-field trip around the school to find examples of architecture vocabulary. In case you didn't know, Conder not only has columns, but also stucco, and a belt course of bricks. We are having a fantastic start to the new school year. Students have showcased their creativity by writing their names using shapes and objects to form the letters. They have also completed math puzzles and several building challenges. All of these activities will form the basis for our study of architecture. |
